What You Need to Know About SPLOST 2016
During this election year Douglas County residents have an important decision to make. A Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) will be on the November ballot. The shared SPLOST will be used in Douglas County and the cities of Douglasville, Austell and Villa Rica to better each community for all citizens.
The previous SPLOST, which raise about $80 million, ended April 1, 2016, and was used to pay for the new jail.
If passed, the new SPLOST will go into effect April 1, 2017. The estimated six-year collections are $160 million.
“This is the fairest tax of all, where everyone who spends money in the county pays it,” said Citizens 2016 Committee Chair Ed Cahill. “On average an estimated 30 percent of SPLOST taxes paid come from people traveling into Douglas County.”
“If you intend to vote in the Nov. 8 General Election, this Citizens SPLOST 2016 Committee encourages you to VOTE YES,” said Cahill “Make yourself familiar with the projects and make your own decision, informed voters make rational decisions.”
