WorkSource Georgia
WorkSource Georgia is the state’s federal-funded employment and training system, working to connect talent with opportunity. At the local level, Douglas County works with the Atlanta Region Workforce Investment Board to utilize WIOA funds. WIOA funds are allotted to dislocated workers, low-income adults and youth and administered specifically through services geared toward helping disadvantaged citizens obtain meaningful employment.
Career Ready Training Program
The Career Ready Training Program is geared towards adults who are seeking to upskill or reskill to meet the demands on industry in Douglas County. Following the graduation ceremony, the graduates are immediately participated in interviews with ten employer partners.
The program is funded through a grant from Atlanta CareerRise, and the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA). Participants committed to a six-week training program focused on critical technical and soft skills identified by local employers. The participants earned certifications in Forklift Operation and Power Tools, as well as OSHA-10. The Career Ready Training Program is part of the Cultivate Talent Pillar in the Community Economic and Strategic Plan. The program is part of the goal to engage local businesses in workforce development and education initiatives as well as provide
employment and education assistance to underserved areas of Douglas County.
For more information about the Career Ready Training Program, contact Breezy Straton at 678.838.3665.
Work-Based Learning
The Work-Based Learning (WBL) program is designed to provide experiences and activities that support a school to career transition. This simply means that students are allowed to work off campus in the business community in order to learn more about a chosen career. Once a student has met all requirements of WBL, the WBL Coordinator will determine the correct WBL placement for the student. The students will earn one unit of credit for each completed WBL course.
