Google and City of Douglasville representatives will host a “cord cutting” ceremony, announcing the launch of a new hot spot in Douglasville. More than 60 acres of the downtown will have free WI-Fi access, including the plaza, the football field, City Hall and Jesse Davis Park. This project, supported by the City of Douglasville and Google, represents a shared commitment to bolster Douglasville’s technology and economic development needs for residents and visitors.
WHEN: Thursday, May 30, a media event will be held from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a lunch for attendees.
WHERE: Outside at the Plaza in Downtown Douglasville by City Hall. City Hall is located at 6695 Church Street, Douglasville, GA 30134. The rain location will be the Douglasville Conference Center at 6700 Church Street. Parking is available at the public parking deck on Church Street adjacent to the Conference Center.
WHY:
Every city needs a central meeting spot to attract visitors and residents. In order to make a location more appealing, Internet access is becoming increasingly important. Access to the Internet is a requirement for success in education, work and life, and the Douglasville region needs to keep up as new technologies develop. This technology initiative will help bridge the digital divide for the Douglasville community.
