Young Scholars Celebrate Science at Douglas County Elementary Science and Engineering Fair

Preston Thorpe science fairwithPrincipal Alesia StanleyDouglas County Elementary School Students celebrated their love for science with a science and engineering fair this month. Murray Educational Center was abuzz with families, teachers, and administrators gathering to congratulate and encourage the group of budding young scientists. 

Students initially presented their science and engineering projects at their schools. Eighty-two of the best projects advanced to the county-wide fair. Judges critiqued the project on  and later interviewed all participating students. “I was amazed at how articulate and knowledgeable the elementary students were,” said Mandy Johnson, who served as a judge. “The projects were very impressive.” 

Fifth grader Preston Thorpe from New Manchester Elementary took home a Best of Show prize for his project titled “A Study of Blood Flow through the Heart.” 

Cyndi Drake’s kindergarten class at Mason Creek Elementary won Best in Show for their project “Grow, Plant, Grow.”
