Weekly Legislative Update – Week 2

The General Assembly was in recess last week both to observe the MLK holiday and to conduct joint House and Senate budget hearings.  Agency heads presented their budgets to the joint committees and answered questions from committee members regarding their spending plans. Last Thursday, the Governor addressed the joint committees to highlight budget issues of importance to his administration.  His speech outlined his interest in supporting investments in expanding the capabilities of our technical schools and continuing support for his efforts toward criminal justice reform. The Governor also announced his Education Reform Commission last week, which will take up important issues such as revising Georgia’s educational funding formula.
