The Chamber is proud to promote and support local businesses in Douglas County. Keeping tax dollars LOCAL will help support growth for our future.

Top 10 Reasons to BUY Local

In today’s economy, local businesses are struggling and your local purchase today could make the difference for that business owner to stay open.

  1. Create and Keep Jobs!  Keeping your dollars local, keeps jobs locally.
  2. Sales tax dollars generated each time you spend money inside our community help fund schools, police officers, fire fighters, parks, libraries, recreation programs and street maintenance. When you spend money out of town, or online, those tax dollars support services in other communities.
  3. Local small businesses are constantly asked to support local charities, athletics, fundraisers and school activities.  In return, we need to support them.  This is also critical for keeping our non-profits funded. Spending your money in your community gives business owners the ability to donate to you or your child’s school or nonprofit group.
  4. Reduce Environmental Impact.  We’re all paying too much for gas!  Shopping local generally means saving money on gas, contributing less to sprawl, congestion, habitat loss and pollution.
  5. Local businesses re-invest in their communities.  Local businesses tend to bank locally, dine locally, hire local accountants, attorneys and other service providers, and advertise in local media.
  6. Encourage Economic Development.  Something wonderful happens when local businesses thrive… it attracts more businesses, creating an excellent business culture and enhancing our position as an Entrepreneur Friendly Community!
  7. Better jobs and wages.  Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and in turn, provide better wages and benefits than most chains do.  Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally.
  8. Local Decision Making.  Local ownership means that important decisions are made locally by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.  We can’t forget that local business owners are our neighbors, who have a personal, vested interest in the long-term success of this area.
  9. Just Imagine: According to the US Census Bureau estimate, 70% of people in Douglas County are over the age of 18 (2017).   If each one of us spends an additional $50 locally per year, it would generate $4.5 Million more into our local economy

CHOW-FINAL-300x124 - Copy

The DC Chamber is proud of our restaurant members and are excited about a marketing promotion that is ALL ABOUT THEM. As restaurateurs it is not always easy for them to attend the monthly networking events to promote and grow their businesses, so this is one way the Chamber would like to send business THEIR way!

Each week the Chamber will feature a member restaurant as the Chamber CHOW of the Week. Readers will be able to find an ad in the Douglas County Sentinel on Wednesday featuring the CHOW of the Week’s special restaurant promotion. It could be a free item, buy one get one deal, or special discount. The coupon will be valid for 30 days after their ad runs in the Sentinel.

For more information on Chamber CHOW of the Week, look in our Chamber Weekly Email on Thursday and be sure to check Wednesday’s Douglas County Sentinel for your coupon!!

“As a Small Business Owner for the past 32 years in Douglas County, I have valued the programs that our Chamber provides for us, one being the Buy Local Campaign. My business depends on customers coming into my Studio to shop, instead of going to one of the other franchises across Atlanta. Last year, the Chamber presented Buy Local Bingo, which brought customers in who had never been in before. This promotional event provided a way for us to introduce Douglas County citizens to the selection of items we offer, hopefully making them a NEW Customer and one for life! We all must take an active part in promoting the importance of shopping locally to Douglas County residents, therefore helping our local economy and our Mom & Pop stores! Our Chamber helps by rolling out new ideas & programs to bring increased awareness of why Shopping Local is a VERY valuable asset to the patron as well as to the business owner!”
