The Douglas County Chamber is pleased to announce the students that recently completed the Youth Leadership Douglas (YLD) Spring 2024 program. These students are juniors from public and private high schools in Douglas County. Program participants were recognized recently at the Douglas County Board of Education meeting.Youth Leadership Douglas students were given the opportunity to acquire and broaden their knowledge of not only social and business etiquette but also of Economic Development, Water Resources, Government, Public Safety, Arts, and Recreation. The program was led by two volunteer Co-Chairs, Hope Hendrix from Douglas County Schools and Ryan Lister from Douglas County Parks & Recreations, and was coordinated by Carley Lawson from the DC Chamber, Dr. Tawyna Bailey, Julie Jeffcoat, Kimberly Isles-Towry, Whitney Lester, and Summer Rogers from the Douglas County School System.
YLD Co-Chair, Ryan Lister, commented “It’s been almost a year since we started this journey with our youth leaders, consisting of junior students across an array of different educational platforms. This experience was not a success because the students got to be mentored by leaders and distinguished professionals within our county and got to visit places to learn how our county operates, but more so because we got to see our youth step up in ways that were immeasurable. The experience was long and challenging, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. These kids are impressive, and they all have a bright future. This program these kids participated in will benefit their professional careers and Douglas County, as a whole.
The application and selection process for the 2024-2025 school year has been completed. The new classes will be announced at a later date and will be led by Co-Chairs; Jasmine Harden, Youth Villages- Inner Harbour and Hunter Alcarez, Douglas County School System.
