Douglas County Board of Commissioners appoints new DDCWSA Board member

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has announced a new member of the board has been appointed to the Douglasville-Douglas County Water and Sewer Authority.  Dr. Bill Willis was appointed on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 to be the next board member to fill the unexpired term recently left open after Mr. Layne Smith’s resignation.   Dr. Willis’ term runs through April 2, 2020.  He will be introduced at a February Work Session on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at the Douglasville-Douglas County Water and Sewer Authority Headquarters at 8763 Hospital Drive, Douglasville.

The meeting is open to the public.  The Board of Directors plans a presentation on Tuesday, February 27th during a voting meeting where it will convey a token of appreciation to Mr. Layne Smith for his three years of service.

Douglasville-Douglas County WSA Executive Director Gil Shearouse said, “Mr. Smith was an excellent Board member for the last three years and he will be missed.”

The Water and Sewer Authority policies are set by the Board of Directors composed of seven members.  Five of the Board members are interested, local residents appointed alternately by the City Council and Mayor of the City of Douglasville and the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and Commission Chairman to serve five-year staggered terms.  The Mayor of the City of Douglasville and the Chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners both serve as ex-officio voting members of the Authority.

The Board appoints the Executive Director who serves by contract.
