College Board Releases 2017 Scores for New Version of SAT
The Douglas County School System’s (DCSS) SAT scores for the 2017 cohort year were released September 26, 2017. In March 2016, The College Board released a new version of this test, which includes an evidence-based reading and writing test and a math test. The College Board’s SAT is a globally recognized college admissions test designed to assess academic readiness for college through student reasoning based on knowledge and skills.
“I am encouraged with how some of our schools performed,” Superintendent Trent North stated. “These results serve as baseline data for our teachers and leaders to focus on skills which indicate college readiness. We plan to be proactive this year and will offer SAT and ACT preparation classes at each of our high schools. School and district leaders are hopeful these classes, as well as other supports available to our students, will help our students succeed on these assessments. The DCSS is striving for more gains in the next academic year.”
The district’s overall mean score was below the state mean score. The mean score for Douglas County High School (DCHS) was above the state’s mean score. DCHS students also outperformed the national mean score for evidence-based reading and writing 543 to 533, respectively. The Georgia Department of Education reported students in the state of Georgia significantly take the SAT more than students across the nation.
