TedXDouglasville Event April 4th!

Organizer Mahdi Al-Husseini and his team celebrated their upcoming event, TedXDouglasville, by holding a Chamber Ribbon Cutting on March 19th. TedXDouglasville will hold their event on April 4th at the Douglasville Conference Center.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDxDouglasville is a local, self-organized, annual event that intends to bring the people of Douglasville, and the rest of the western Metro-Atlanta region, together in order to share “ideas worth spreading”. The event will be hosted on Saturday, April 4th, 2015, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Douglasville Conference Center. The educational event will be centered on the betterment of “ourselves, our communities, and our world.” The event will consist of six “TED Talks”, short (18 minutes or less) and powerful talks on specific ideas or messages. The focus of these six talks will be “Science, Society, and Sensation”, with two speakers in each category.

Chamber President & CEO, Kali Boatright congratulated Madhi and the team on behalf of the Chamber, “on behalf of the Chamber we are so proud to have students who have recently graduated from Douglas County Schools doing such big things! As a product of the school system, orchestrating an event on this level is astonishing and we are very proud to help promote and support the first ever TedXDouglasville.”
