DC Chamber Foundation Scholarships and Founders Awards Announced

The Douglas County Chamber announced the recipients of the annual Chamber Foundation Leadership Scholarships and 2013 Founders Award at the GreyStone Power Luncheon on Tuesday, May 21st. The Chamber Foundation coordinates community education and leadership programs including Leadership Douglas, Youth Leadership Douglas and our Annual Chamber Leadership Scholarship.

 
The Chamber Foundation Leadership Scholarship was funded this year by the DC Chamber’s Young Professionals Connection. Each year, scholarships are awarded to high-achieving, local high school students who excel academically and have demonstrated leadership in their school and community. This year the qualities of applicants were truly inspiring and highly competitive with more than 30 applicants for only two scholarships.

 
The recipient of the $1,000 Chamber Foundation Leadership Scholarships was Joy Peltier from Douglas County High School. Joy has a 4.0 GPA, is a 2011 Youth Leadership Douglas Graduate, is a 2012 Governor’s Honors Program participant, Georgia All state chorus member since 2010, is current President of the DCHS National Spanish Honor Society and National Beta Club, a Georgia Certificate of Merit recipient, and multiple other academic awards! She will attend the University of Georgia in the fall in the Honors Program and major in Cognitive Science and World Language Education.

 
The runner up recipient of a $500 Chamber Foundation Leadership Scholarships is Kelsey Anderson from Chapel Hill High School. Kelsey has a 4.0 GPA and is a 2011 Youth Leadership Douglas Graduate, received the Hugh O’Brian and DC Rotary Leadership Awards in 2011, has served as President of HOSA for the past two years along with being a member of NHS, Beta Club, Spanish Club and more. Kelsey will attend Kennesaw State University in the fall and will pursue a Nursing degree.

 
The Leadership Douglas Program involved alumni in nominating and selecting the Leadership Douglas Founder’s Award Recipient this year. The Founder’s Award is given to a Leadership Douglas Alumni who has demonstrated the guiding principles of the organization through giving back to the community in a leadership capacity.

 
Patti Puckett, winner of the 2013 Leadership Douglas Founder’s Award and business owner of Ameriprise Financial – Douglasville Franchise, was recognized for being an excellent example of a community leader, and one seen at the helm of several non-profit organizations. Ms. Puckett has served on many community boards including the Chamber of Commerce, Chamber Foundation, Leadership Douglas, United Way, Rotary Club, WellStar Community Board and is also a Leadership Douglas Alumni from the Class of 2004. She is always willing to provide support and experience to organizations in need and is well known to the community as someone who definitely gets things done.
