Hang a Ribbon for Safety – Fundraiser for Pilot Club of Sweetwater Inc.

Thanks to The Pilot Club of Sweetwater for contributing:

Looking for a few good business owners!!!

Pilot International was founded in 1921 as a volunteer service organization. The historic inspiration for the name was the riverboat pilot who would steer a true course through calm or troubled waters. Thus, our motto, “True Course Ever”.

Pilot members are business and professional leaders who share a common trait, the desire to help people in need and to make the world a better place to live.

Since 1991, the service focus of Pilot International is helping people affected by brain related disorders. We are a nonprofit 501C3 corporation.

The idea behind this fundraiser is to partner with the Douglas County lighting of the tree for Christmas. We as Pilots will sell ribbons for $1.00 a piece to the citizens of Douglas County. They will be purchased in memory of or as a tribute to any organization or individual the purchaser desires. For example, members of a little league team, a book club, Sunday school class or just someone’s child. Their names will be put on a ribbon and attached to the Christmas tree outside the courthouse at a special event on November 25th.

The donations will go to the Triad program that has begun with the Sheriff’s Department. www.nationaltriad.org Triad is in its twenty-second year of reducing criminal victimization of older persons; improving quality of life for older adults; educating and involving the community in implementing solutions; and enhancing delivery of law enforcement services to the elderly and disabled.

The National Association of Triads is a partnership of three organizations—law enforcement, older adults, and community groups. The purpose of Triad is to promote older adult safety and to reduce the fear of crime that older adults often experience. NATI assists at the grassroots level, helping you organize your Triad and providing a clearinghouse of programs and resources that can be implemented at a community level, and training materials for law enforcement, volunteers, and community groups.

What Triads do:
• Educate: by sponsoring crime prevention and public education for older adults.
• Assist: by recruiting and training volunteers to assist police departments, sheriff’s offices and other agencies.
• Support: by identifying community resources and providing referrals to older persons to help reduce fear and lend moral support.
• Unite: by involving the older adult population, law enforcement, community agencies, and individuals to identify problem areas in their communities.

In addition the money we collect will also go towards helmets and coloring books for the children of Douglas County. This is a part of Pilots Brain minders program. BrainMinders is the signature project for Pilot International focused on traumatic brain injury and brain disorders. The project encompasses a public service campaign designed to promote brain awareness; prevention education programs for children and adults; workshop and speakers bureau materials; a partnership with Project Lifesaver, a tracking program; and support for brain-related programs.

Pilot needs assistance in providing the resources our community needs. We are a close knit family of business owners here in Douglasville and are going to have to pull together to make these projects a success.

Your part: Simply allow us to sell ribbons in your place of business, store front or purchase ribbons for your employee’s or family members. Anything you can do to assist would be a blessing.

Please email me if you are interested in helping with this project or have any questions or concerns.

Thank you all so very much!
