The Douglas County Chamber is pleased to announce the 24 graduating members of Leadership Douglas. The Class of 2019 graduated on May 14th in a ceremony held during the GreyStone Power Luncheon sponsored by Google, Inc.
Leadership Douglas is a program of the Douglas County Chamber Foundation. During the program, the 24 diverse and unique individuals from businesses and organizations in Douglas County who made it their goal over the last year to enhance their leadership skills and community involvement for the betterment of all citizens, businesses, organizations and governments in Douglas County. The graduates were led by co-chairs Lyndsey Sargent, from Douglasville-Douglas County Water & Sewer Authority and Jeff Noles, from GreyStone Power Corporation.
Throughout the ten-month program, students participated in a variety of activities including presentations, discussions, work sessions, and other activities including water resources, government, health and wellness, arts and culture, public safety, education, government and social services. Participants met and interacted with current community and business leaders throughout the year, gaining contacts and an in-depth understanding of the community.
In addition to their monthly classes, the Class of 2019 took time to give back to the community and the group elected to provide landscaping for Sanctuary Village, a vision of Judge Beau McClain to help the homeless and drug court participants in Douglas County with an opportunity to get back on their feet. With the help of local entities such as Douglas County Government, GreyStone Power, and HRC Engineers, Surveyors & Landscape Architects, the Class of 2019 was able to add landscape enhancements along the front of the Sanctuary Village project. The class was responsible for coordinating the landscape design, delivery and installation of the plant material. Almost twenty trees, and fifty shrubs and perennials were added to provide a warm, inviting arrival to the development.
Co-Chair, Lyndsey Sargent, commented, “I feel privileged to have co-chaired a group of such compassionate and hardworking members of our community. I know they will take their experiences from the class and do some truly awesome things in Douglas County.”
