Chamber Announces Foundation Leadership Scholars

The Douglas County Chamber announced the recipients of the annual Chamber Leadership Scholarships at the GreyStone Power Luncheon on Tuesday, May 20th.

The Chamber Foundation coordinates community education and leadership programs such as Leadership Douglas, Youth Leadership Douglas and our Annual Chamber Leadership Scholarship.  The scholarship was funded this year by the DC Chamber’s Young Professionals Connection.  Each year, scholarships are awarded to high-achieving, local high school students who excel academically and have demonstrated leadership in their school and community.  This year the quality of applicants was truly inspiring and highly competitive with more than 20 applicants for only two scholarships.

The recipient of the $1,000 Chamber Foundation Leadership Scholarships is Kyle Parrott from Alexander High School. Kyle is graduating with a 3.9 GPA, is a 2013 Youth Leadership Douglas Graduate, President of the AHS National Honor Society, FBLA and Key Club, a participant in the AmeriCorps Program, Marching Band and Show Choir participant, has served countless hours serving the community including coordinating Blood Drives at his school, and multiple other academic awards. Kyle stated in his essay he intends to pursue a career in Nursing at Samford University and believes that the keys to being an effective leader include hard work, religious principles, friendly service and dedication to family.

The runner up recipient of a $500 Chamber Foundation Leadership Scholarships is Madeline Gibbs from Douglas County High School. Madeline is graduating with a 4.0 GPA, is a 2013 Youth Leadership Douglas Graduate, is the County Wide STAR Student recipient, Captain of the award winning Scholar Bowl at DCHS, member of National Honor Society as well as the Spanish and Art NHS’, a participant in the Model Atlanta Regional Commission and Senior Class Secretary, has served countless hours serving the community, and multiple academic awards.
