The Douglas County Chamber is pleased to announce that applications for the 2018-2019 Youth Leadership Douglas (YLD) program are now available. The goals of Youth Leadership Douglas are to provide opportunities for participants to develop an understanding of the meaning and responsibilities of personal, organizational and community leadership and to produce ethical leaders committed to active community involvement. This program is a partnership between the Chamber and the Douglas County School System.
Leadership is more than just raw talent and determination. While a portion of great leadership is aptitude, a great deal of what it takes to be a leader is skill based and can be learned. Participants will acquire and broaden their knowledge of local government, business and civic activities through this leadership program. The Youth Leadership Douglas program is highly interactive which permits participants to review the impact each topic has on themselves as well as the larger community. The program will provide students with personal and professional development opportunities that cater to each individual.
Youth Leadership Douglas is offered in two different sessions. Fall session begins in August 2018 and ends in December 2018, and Spring session begins January 2019 and ends in May 2019. Current sophomores from Douglas County high schools (both public and private) and homeschool students are eligible. Students must apply and qualify through an application and interview process.
2017-18 YLD Co-Chair, Daniel Manny with the Water and Sewer Authority commented, “I have truly enjoyed working with each of the students! I watched each group of students gain a better understanding of their hometown community and hone their leadership skills. I know, without a doubt, each of these young adults are going to do great things in this community and will make tremendous impacts in the world. I can’t wait to see where the future takes them!”
Applications are due by March 22nd and are available online at www.douglascountygeorgia.com. For more information on this program, please contact the Chamber at 770.942.5022.
